Teddy Bear Clinic: A Heartwarming Community Event in Reedsburg
The Teddy Bear Clinic in Reedsburg was an incredible event designed to educate children about health and medical procedures in a fun and engaging way. Children had the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals, participate in hands-on activities, and gain a better understanding of the medical field through their beloved stuffed animals.
Held on July 9, 2024, the Reedsburg Area Medical Center (RAMC) hosted this special event, which originally began as a team-building activity for hospital staff. The Teddy Bear Clinic aimed to demystify the healthcare environment, making it less intimidating and more approachable for young minds.
Children ages 1 through 12 were invited to bring their stuffed animals for a playful and educational experience. Upon arrival, each child received a name badge – “Dr. _” and a booklet, then “registered” their stuffed animal, which received an ID band. From there, the little doctors visited various stations where they “treated” their teddy bear for a range of pretend ailments and injuries.
At each stop, children learned about different medical topics, including getting shots, x-rays, drawing blood for lab tests, and fitting their stuffed animals for crutches. They also got to see and touch medical equipment.
This setup provided a fun way for children to learn about healthcare and worked to alleviate any fears they might have about visiting the doctor by familiarizing them with the medical environment in a friendly and engaging manner​.
The event was a heartwarming success with happy, smiling kids everywhere. It was such a wonderful, fun community event that I can’t say enough good things about it!
