Float Spa Experience in Wisconsin Dells

I recently had the chance to try out the Float Spa in Wisconsin Dells, and it turned out to be a fascinating and enlightening experience. As someone who values self-care and enjoys spa services, I was excited to learn about floating and experience it firsthand. Jamie, the owner, thoroughly explained everything and ensured I felt comfortable before starting.
Upon arrival, I was shown the different flotation rooms and chose the one Jamie referred to as “for the huggers.” It was a smaller, cozy space that still had plenty of room, making me feel more secure.

After selecting my room, they provided body wash and shampoo to use in the private shower before entering the float tank. The private shower added a nice touch, making the experience feel more personal and comfortable.
To start the float, you shower and then enter the float tank, laying back to relax. There are controls for the light and music and a head halo to support your head. The best way to describe the experience would be to imagine doing a back float in a pool, but effortlessly—it’s like feeling no gravity pull at all.
Towards the end of the float, I began to feel like I needed some air, so I cracked the door of the vessel (as Jamie had shown me beforehand) and sat up, which felt similar to sitting in a hot tub.
After the float, you shower again, and there’s a vanity room available for those who want to get ready before leaving. The relaxation area features a comfortable sitting area and a selection of coffee and teas. The rest of my evening was marked by an incredible sense of alertness and rejuvenation, which didn’t affect my sleep.
The most surprising benefit was the absence of joint pain the following day. As a mom, I often experience neck aches and shoulder stiffness from carrying my toddler, but the float seemed to provide lasting muscle relief that was truly noticeable.
What is Floating?
I had the opportunity to chat with Jamie before my session to learn more about floating. Floating, also known as floatation therapy or sensory deprivation therapy, involves lying in a specialized float tank filled with warm water and Epsom salts. The high concentration of salts allows you to float effortlessly, creating a weightless sensation. The water is maintained at skin temperature, and the tank is designed to minimize sensory input, providing a serene and tranquil environment. Scientific evidence points to the benefits of floating.

The Benefits of Floating
Floatation therapy is celebrated for its numerous potential benefits, both physical and mental. Self-care is often a luxury that many moms feel guilty about. However, taking time for yourself is essential to avoid burnout and maintain your well-being. Floating offers numerous benefits that enhance overall wellness:
- Stress Reduction: Floating helps to lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, leading to deep relaxation and a sense of calm.
- Pain Relief: The weightlessness experienced in the float tank can alleviate pressure on joints and muscles, making it a popular option for those with chronic pain or injuries.
- Enhanced Sleep Quality: Many people find that floating improves their sleep patterns, leading to deeper and more restful sleep.
- Mental Clarity and Focus: The sensory deprivation aspect can lead to heightened mental clarity, creativity, and focus, as it gives the brain a break from constant sensory input.
- Mood Improvement: Floating has been shown to increase the production of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” hormones, which can help elevate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
According to WebMD, floating can also relieve migraines and aid in detoxification due to the magnesium in the Epsom salts.
Who Can Benefit from Floating?
While floating can be beneficial for almost anyone, it is particularly advantageous for:
- Athletes: The buoyancy of the water can help with muscle relaxation and recovery after intense workouts.
- Multitasking Moms: Floating is a self-care practice that every mom can benefit from.
- Busy Professionals: Floating offers a break from the hectic pace of daily life, allowing for deep relaxation and mental clarity.
- Anyone Seeking Relaxation: If you’re simply looking for a way to relax and unwind, floating offers a peaceful, meditative environment.
Remember, while many people enjoy floating, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or specific health conditions before trying it.
Floating During Pregnancy
Pregnant women often experience physical discomfort and stress, and floating can provide much-needed relief:
- Weightlessness: Many expectant mothers enjoy the feeling of reduced pressure on their joints and back, providing relief from discomfort.
- Improved Sleep: Pregnant women often struggle with sleep, and the relaxation from floating can promote better sleep quality.
- Reduced Swelling: The Epsom salts can help reduce swelling in the feet and ankles, a common issue during pregnancy.
- Mental Calm: The serene environment can help expectant mothers relax and reduce stress levels.
Jamie said they welcome moms in during their 2nd trimester and up to 38 weeks. She personally floated during pregnancy and truly believes in its healing powers.
Floating as a Womb-Like Experience and Bonding Opportunity
Floating can provide a womb-like experience for pregnant women, offering a unique and intimate bonding opportunity between the mom and baby.
Womb-Like Environment
The float tank, filled with warm water and Epsom salts, creates a sensation of weightlessness, mimicking the buoyancy experienced in the womb. The water is maintained at skin temperature, around 94-95 degrees Fahrenheit, which closely resembles the warmth of the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby. This environment can make the mother feel more connected to the experience her baby is having in the womb, providing a comforting and familiar sensation.
Enhanced Relaxation
The quiet and darkness inside the float tank can help the mother tune into the subtle movements of her baby, enhancing the sense of connection.
Mental and Emotional Benefits
Floating increases the production of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” hormones, which can elevate mood and promote a sense of well-being. This positive mental state can create a nurturing environment for bonding with the baby. The quiet, meditative space allows the mother to focus on her thoughts and feelings, fostering a deeper emotional connection with her unborn child.
A Moment for Every Mom
Floating is not just for prenatal moms; it’s an invaluable retreat for mothers at every stage of parenting. Here’s why:
- Uninterrupted Me-Time: Whether you have a newborn, a toddler, or a teenager, finding a moment to yourself can be nearly impossible. Floating offers an hour of uninterrupted peace, allowing you to recharge without the constant call of “mom, mom, mom.”
- Stress Reduction: Floating helps reduce cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress. This is crucial for moms who need to maintain patience with their children and handle the everyday challenges of parenting.
- Improved Sleep: Sleep deprivation is a common issue for moms. An hour of floating can help increase rest and rejuvenate you for the days ahead, improving your overall sleep quality.
- Enhanced Mental Clarity: The sensory deprivation aspect of floating reduces brain fog and enhances mental clarity. This can help moms juggle busy schedules filled with dinner preparations, sports practices, and school events.
- Physical Relief: Carrying a baby or toddler can cause significant tension and pain in the body. Floating relieves this physical strain, providing much-needed muscle relaxation.
