What’s Happening for Fire Prevention Week in Sauk County
Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that a little preparation can make a big difference in keeping our families safe. Local fire departments across Sauk County are helping teach kids and parents about fire safety through fun hands-on activities.
It’s the perfect chance for kids to meet real firefighters, climb aboard fire trucks, and learn what to do in an emergency all while parents pick up a few simple safety tips that could save lives.

A Few Family Fire Safety Reminders
- Test your smoke detectors this week and make sure they’re working properly. Replace batteries if needed.
- Have a family escape plan: walk through it with your kids so everyone knows two ways out of every room and where to meet outside.
- Keep bedroom doors closed while you sleep. It can slow the spread of smoke and flames, giving your family more time to get out safely.
- Practice stop, drop, and roll with little ones in a fun, non-scary way.
- Check your fire extinguishers and make sure adults know how to use them.

A few quick checks now can help your family feel confident and prepared, not just this week, but all year long.
