Ski Hi apple orchard apple picking

Apple Picking at Ski Hi in Baraboo, WI

If you’re looking for a fun fall outing in Sauk County, we had such a great time apple picking at Ski-Hi in Baraboo! It was super easy, fun, and the apples were absolutely delicious.

We’ve always loved Ski-Hi’s apples, but I swear they tasted even better picked straight from the tree!

What to Know Before You Go

When you arrive, pull into the gravel parking lot across the road from the regular parking lot by the store. From there, follow the signs down a short driveway to the apple-picking area.

You’ll find a table set up with information about picking apples, along with two different sizes of bags available to purchase. You can also sign up for a horse-drawn wagon ride while you’re there.

We decided to do both, and I’m so glad we did!

Take a Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride

The horse-drawn wagon ride was a really fun addition to our visit. It cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids (I’m pretty sure), with children ages 5 and under riding free.

The ride was more than just a fun way to see the orchard. It was also really interesting and informative, with stories about Ski-Hi’s history. It took us in an area of the property I’ve never been. Our driver even pointed out an apple tree that’s more than 100 years old!

It was a great way to learn a little more about the farm while enjoying the fall scenery.

Picking Apples Straight From the Tree

After buying our apple bags, we were shown which rows we could pick from and learned about the different apple varieties available. They also demonstrated the proper way to pick an apple, and then we were off on our own!

The process was easy to figure out, even for first-time apple pickers. We could take our time, explore the rows, and pick the apples we wanted.

The best part is they encourage you to try the apples while you’re picking. And if you think about it, that makes sense so you know what you like! I’m so glad we did because when I tasted how amazing the golden delicious were, I picked more of them than I would have otherwise. It also helped us realize we would like more of the Jonamac and less of the Cortland.

We’ve enjoyed Ski-Hi apples for years, but there’s something extra delicious about picking them right off the tree.

Is Apple Picking at Ski-Hi Worth It?

Absolutely! We had such a fun time, and I loved how easy the whole experience was. I probably wouldn’t do the wagon ride again next year since I feel like once you’ve done it, you’ve done it—but I’ll definitely be back for apple picking! (Honestly, I might even make it back again this year!)

If you’re looking for seasonal things to do with kids in Baraboo or a fun way to spend a fall day in Sauk County, I’d definitely recommend adding Ski-Hi to your list and if you’re looking for more fall fun with your family, there are so many great options around the area!
