If you’re looking for fun fall activities with kids around Baraboo, you’ve got plenty of options. From pumpkin patches & colorful hikes to special events like the Hill and Valley Exploration Tour and Fall Art Tour, there’s something for every family to enjoy.

And as Halloween approaches, there are tons of spooky (and not-so-spooky!) events to add a little extra excitement to your fall festivities.

Ski Hi farm store

Ski-Hi Fruit Farm

Fall just isn’t complete without a visit (or two…or even weekly!) to an apple orchard, and Ski-Hi Fruit Farm is the perfect destination. This 3rd generation family farm offers apple picking, hayrides, walking trails, and a delightful petting farm that’s a hit with the kids.

Little ones can meet and feed friendly animals like calves, donkeys, pigs, and goats. Plus, there’s an old tractor that kids can climb on for a fun photo op. Make sure to snap a pic!

Inside the farm store, you’ll find a tempting array of apple-inspired treats, including pies, apple cider donuts, cider, and of course, bags of freshly picked apples.

You’ll always find me checking out their selection of cute apparel too.

Fall Fair on the Square

Nearly 200 crafters, artists, and photographers will fill the square, offering handmade goods ranging from unique art pieces to one-of-a-kind gifts.

The fun goes beyond shopping. Families can enjoy live performances throughout the day, including musicians, acrobats, and magicians sure to delight all ages. Kids will also love face painting and other hands-on activities just for them.

When it’s time for a snack, you’ll find a variety of food vendors serving up seasonal and classic fair favorites. Plus, the Baraboo Farmer’s Market will be open, offering fresh, locally grown produce to round out your fall experience.

Sunday Market in Baraboo, WI

Sunday Market

The Sunday Market in Baraboo feels like a mini Fair on the Square but with its own vibe. You’ll find everything from handmade crafts & vintage treasures to artisan goods and even fresh flowers & local produce.

Vendors set up along Oak Street and across the courthouse lawn, turning the whole area into a fun spot to wander and shop.

Each market has live music from local performers and a rotating lineup of food vendors serving up tasty eats so you can grab lunch or a treat while you browse.

The market runs the last Sunday of the month from May through October (10 am–2 pm, weather permitting).

It’s also a hit with kids! Our son loves the music, exploring on the lawn (especially the old tank), and of course, never says no to a sweet treat before we head home (his favorite is Peach Pops if they’re there).

Devil's Lake in WI at fall time.

Devil’s Lake State Park

For families looking to enjoy the outdoors during the fall season, one of the top spots is Devil’s Lake State Park. From hiking and wildlife watching to rock climbing and picnicking, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this great spot.

Hiking and Scenic Views

With over 29 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to challenging, families can explore the park while taking in the stunning views of the lake and the fall colors.

Trails like the East Bluff Trail offer panoramic views that are especially beautiful in the fall (Department of Natural Resources).

Picnic Areas

After a hike, families can relax at one of the many picnic areas available throughout the park. Pack a lunch and enjoy the crisp fall air while surrounded by nature’s beauty.

Wildlife Watching

Fall is also a great time for wildlife watching at Devil’s Lake. Kids will love spotting various birds, deer, and other animals as they prepare for winter. Bring a pair of binoculars and see what you can find. Inexpensive and so much fun!

Rock Climbing

For families with older kids or teens, Devil’s Lake offers some of the best rock climbing in the Midwest. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced climber, the park has options.

Kayaking and Canoeing

While the weather permits, families can also rent kayaks or canoes to explore Devil’s Lake from the water. The calm waters and stunning surroundings make for a peaceful and memorable experience.
