Riverfront Park

Great Area Playgrounds – Riverfront Park in Sauk City

Being home with my toddler (who has a ton of energy) means we visit multiple parks each day. We have a couple of great parks we can walk to and even more favorites around Baraboo, but we also like to travel to nearby cities for their parks and recreation too.

One that we’ve really enjoyed this year has been the Riverfront Park in Sauk City, WI.

Located on the west bank of the Wisconsin River, Riverfront Park in Sauk City offers an array of activities and amenities that make it a perfect spot for families. The park stretches from downtown Sauk City north to the neighboring Village of Prairie du Sac, providing extensive walking trails, a beach area, and several soccer fields. It also connects to the Great Sauk Trail (Wisconsin’s newest state trail), making it a fun stop for those biking, walking, and roller blading.

Park Features

Playground Equipment

The playground is designed with different age groups in mind, ensuring that both toddlers and older kids can find equipment suited to their interests and abilities.

It’s equipped with modern and safe play structures, including slides, climbing frames, and interactive play panels. The playground features a designated area for younger children with lower, easier-to-navigate equipment, while older kids can enjoy a more challenging section with higher climbing structures. Interactive music panels add an extra layer of fun and engagement, allowing children to explore sound and rhythm.

Sauk City, WI splash pad

Splash Pad

One of the standout features of Riverfront Park is its new splash pad. The splash pad is a nice size, allowing both older and younger kids to play together and enjoy the water.

While there are taller spouts that can splash down from above, these can be easily avoided if your child prefers not to get drenched. Its thoughtful design ensures that children of all ages can have fun while staying safe and cool on hot summer days.

Picnic Tables and Shelter

For families looking to enjoy a meal outdoors, the park is equipped with numerous picnic tables conveniently located under the large, shaded shelter. This area is perfect for birthday parties, a picnic with friends, or just a quick snack while playing.

Bathrooms and Water Fountain

Clean and well-maintained ADA-compliant bathrooms are available near the playground, for your convenience. Additionally, two water fountains are available.

Soccer Fields and Lots of Green Space

The park features seven new and improved soccer fields, providing ample space for sports and recreational activities. These fields are perfect for both organized games and spontaneous play.

Great Sauk State Trail

Beginning at the south side of Sauk City, this fully ADA accessible paved trail curves to the north through neighborhoods, eventually crossing highway 12 and passing the park. The trail follows the beautiful Wisconsin River closer as it leads into downtown Prairie du Sac and eventually through the heart of the Sauk Prairie State Recreation area.

Access to the trails is free for pedestrians but, if you’re biking or rollerblading, and are 16 years or older, you’ll need a state trail pass. You can easily purchase trail passes at several convenient locations: a self-serve station near the Ruth Culver Library, the Sauk Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Prairie du Sac Village Hall, Sauk County Clerk’s Office, or the Sauk County Parks and Recreation Office.

Zip-Line and ADA-Compliant Launch

Adventurous kids will enjoy the zip-line, a unique addition to the park’s amenities. Designed to be safe and accessible, this zip line offers a fun way to experience the outdoors from a new perspective. The zip line is designed to be at a height that is thrilling but still safe for children.

Another great feature is the ADA-compliant canoe and kayak launch which makes it easy for everyone to access the river and enjoy a day on the water.

Parking Lot

The park includes a spacious parking lot with ample spots.

Additional Amenities

In addition to the main attractions, Riverfront Park also offers several other features that enhance the visitor experience:
