Meet Nicole Bellock – State Farm Insurance Agent
Some of our most-loved content includes the educational pieces from trusted local businesses like Reedsburg Area Medical Center, Paschen Orthodontics, and more.
This spring, we’re continuing this kind of content with more practical, no-pressure guidance for families — starting with a topic many parents know they should understand better, but often put off: insurance.
We’ll be learning more about Nicole Bellock, a State Farm Insurance Agent in Reedsburg — but before we get into her story, here are a few questions she answered that every family should consider, especially during the busy years of raising kids.
When is the best time for parents to review or update their insurance coverage?
Any life event is a good time to review/update insurance coverage. Marriage, divorce, birth/adoption of a child, death of a loved one, moving or job changes are the main ones that come to mind.
What types of insurance are most important for families with young kids?
Life insurance for parents is incredibly important if you want to ensure your children’s future — including education — is protected, whether you’re here to support them or not. Purchasing life insurance for young children can be a meaningful long-term gift for your family as well. The rates are so inexpensive and you lock them in while they are healthy (we never know what curve balls life is going to throw us when it comes to our health). Diabetes and cancer are two of the most common conditions that can affect life insurance eligibility and they can develop at any age.
Also, if you want to leave a legacy/inheritance behind you want to get a policy started as soon as possible to allow for growth potential.
Hospital Income Policies and Disability Policies are also so important to ensure that you have help with medical bills and/or paying your monthly bills if you are hospitalized or become sick or injured. Nearly 1 in 3 workers will face a disability lasting three months or longer during their career. It’s worth it for the peace of mind to know your bills will be paid whether you are able to work or not.
What’s one mistake you see families make when choosing coverage?
Assuming that “one size fits all” is the biggest mistake we see. The “right” amount of coverage depends on so many factors (i.e. asset accumulation, work benefits, retirement targets just to name a few).
We use a “life needs analysis” to determine the right fit for each family’s situation. We often hear “it’s just what I’ve always had” but the world is changing quickly, and the value of money continues to shift, which makes it essential that coverage keeps pace with inflation and rising costs.
Any tips for keeping insurance costs manageable as families grow?
The best thing you can do is to keep your driving record clean and claims to a minimum. There are also many discount opportunities to take advantage of and having an Agent to review those options is key. Reviewing your coverage regularly and making sure it’s keeping up with your lifestyle changes is so important! Anyone can buy insurance on the internet but having a real person to guide and support your decisions makes a real difference.
Now that you understand a bit more of the “why,” let’s introduce the person behind the guidance.

About Nicole Bellock State Farm Insurance
Located at 251 2nd St in Reedsburg, Nicole’s office is run by a team of women — all moms — who understand the realities of family life.
They are open Monday-Thursday from 9 am-5 pm and Fridays 9 am-4:30 pm. They also have evening and Saturdays available by appointment as they understand how difficult it is for working parents to find time during “normal” business hours.
Nicole is married to Shaun and has 2 daughters (19 and 21) and the older one is Autistic. She has experience with everything from IEP’s to meltdowns and is now dealing with the (sometimes messy!) transition from high school to adulthood.
Nicole is happy to be a resource to anyone struggling with these things and is working to create a community for teens and young adults with special needs so that they have an opportunity to socialize and develop their life skills. It’s still in the early stages, but it’s a project she’s deeply committed to growing.
Stay tuned for the next article in this 3-part series, where we’ll dive deeper into real-life coverage decisions families face — and how to make them with confidence.
